Time and time again, I’ve been asked what happens to a tree when the day comes for it to be removed. Does the team take it home for firewood? Do we sell the lumber? Usually, most of our tree debris ends up in a mulch yard. It’s always been a goal of Truetimber’s to figure out some other solutions that limit waste and help give a tree some new purpose.
Recently, Truetimber made the decision to buy a sawmill, with the goal of trying to re-purpose some of the tree material we end up with. While not every tree is the right fit for a milling project, when possible we have been storing tree logs of various species to start dabbling.
A few weekends ago, some of our staff were able to get out and learn the inner workings of our new machine. While we do not have any set plans for how we’ll incorporate the mill into Truetimber’s structure, it’s exciting nonetheless to see the gears start turning towards what’s to come.
